“Puddle/Puddles/Pool” is an ongoing exploratory project by Canadian artist, Susan Coolen, which centers on her interactions with puddles and ponding water. Work-to-date includes 130 photographed ‘puddle interventions’ in various industrial and public landscapes in and around Kitchener, Ontario. Research queries about industrial materials, toxic ponding, environmental landscapes, natural mineral deposits and more, have taken the form of studio works and directed videos representing the sites she she wanders through. Early experiments have taken the form of puddle jumping and exploratory interactions with, in and on water, using a wearable submersible camera.
Each of Coolen’s 130+ photographed interventions have each been produced as an artist book which functions as document, archive and artwork, simultaneously.
